This sequel probably has the most checkered past of any of the films in the series. Originally titled Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, it was first screened in 1995 it was shelved for a couple of years then re-cut and released with the current title. Rumors were abound that over-actors Matthew McConaughey and Renee ZelIweger had fought to keep the film from release after both hit it big. It was only recently that either publicly acknowledged the film. Zellweger, in particular, was actually pretty kind when talking about it. I was never a fan of this one, but while in Texas I thought I might as well hit up some of the locations.
I was a bit lazy on this one so thanks to Paul at Then & Now Movie Locations for providing the addresses to the school and house. The film opens on the dance (you never see) at the high school, located at 1301 West Pecan Street in Pflugerville, Texas.
A few more shots....
Not quite screen-matched, but this is the spot where the kids speed out of the parking lot...
After getting lost in the "dark" woods, Heather and Barry come upon the house, located at 16493 Cameron Road in Pflugerville, Texas. The house appears to be the same model kit as the original house, but in reverse.
The owners were there during my visit and were kind enough to let me take some photos around the house and property.
With the shrubbery, I couldn't get all the shots for screen-matching, but you can see it is virtually the same.
Not quite as bad as Carrie's prom night, but poor Heather does have a nasty death later...
Barry brought around to the front of the house at gunpoint...
Location fail, the scene where Jenny jumps out of the window is actually at the back of the house, but I didn't get those shots. This is the window in the front that has the same style and I put here for reference.
Later Jenny pays homage to Halloween 4 for a rooftop chase on the right sight of the house. The tree growth has obscured some of the shots, but you can see where the chimney was in the film.
The next location took a little detective work. Bud's didn't appear to be a real place (drive thru pizza?), but I had a couple clues to figure this one out. First, you an see the H-E-B gas station in the background of a couple shots. Second, you briefly see a Radio Shack sign in few frames. I was able to locate where the Radio Shack used to be and the H-E-B store is still across the street. All of the buildings here are new so it was approximately at 15010 Farm to Market Road 1825 in Pflugerville, Texas. (This is actually less than 5 miles south of the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre house locaiton in the original film.)
Back to the house for more mayhem and overacting...
I actually did like the Darla character...
Jenny escapes and steals Darla's car!
Matthew McConaughey's stuntman makes a dramatic leap from this window onto the car...
The last shots of the house...
Across the street is the filming location for The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas!
I just can't.....
As I am working on the series, I am putting all the locations on a map for fans:
