Today marks the anniversary of one of my favorite 80’s horror flicks, Bad Dreams. The movie was kind of given the cold shoulder for seemingly trying to ride on the coattails of the Nightmare on Elm Street series, even with one of its stars, Jennifer Rubin. But, I liked the movie a lot, especially the twist on the normal genre. For those wondering about the cult house, it was a face built for the film and the area it was filmed has been completely taken over by houses and unrecognizable.
The ambulance driving scenes were shot on Mullholland Drive. This first shot is near the Benedict Canyon Road intersection.
The ambulance continues in the same direction towards Clerendon Road.
The hospital was actually shot in multiple locations. A lot of the interiors were shot at Phoenix House Academy at 11600 Eldridge Road. This location was also used in Terminator 2 and was right next door to the hospital in Halloween III.
Most of the exteriors were shot at 1401 South Hope Street in Downtown Los Angeles.
And yet another location was used for the hospital parking lot. Here they shot in the back of Saint Basil Catholic Church at 3611 Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles.
And then back again to the South Hope Street location.
I’ve been lucky to meet a lot of the cast from this great film.
I remember going to a sneak preview of this film and getting an insurance policy and button!
