Burnt Offerings is often remembered by my generation as an early haunted house movie. Released in 1976, it is best known for its cast including Bette Davis, Oliver Reed, Karen Black, Eileen Heckart and Burgess Meredith.
Primarily shot on location, the film used the Dunsmuir Hellman Historic Estate, located at 2960 Peralta Oaks Court in Oakland, California.
This was the first production to use the house, but is also known for its appearance in A View To A Kill and Phantasm.
I visited the house nearly a decade ago for those other films, so my screenshots don’t always match up the best for this film.
The house was closed during my visit, but I did grab a couple shots through the windows.
The same set up from the previous scene….
Decades later and it still looks the same.
The iconic Bette Davis…
A few random establishing shots of the house.
Years later, I tracked down the cemetery scenes, but haven’t been able to visit it in person. This was shot at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park located at 1370 El Camino Real in Colma, California.
Also shot at the cemetery is this funeral scene next to this gravestone. Photos courtesy of FIndaGrave.
i was fortunate to meet the great Karen Black.
