This page was first published on the day of Maxxxine’s release in 2024. I had been working on tracking down locations through trailers and then added some more after seeing a preview screening. Since that time, I’ve been able to visit many of the spots and updated the page accordingly.
The production used Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank for some of the stages and exteriors. The opening was shot in Stage 16.

She exits out of Gate 5 right next to the studio tour building. This used to be the entrance for the trams when the tour began across the street.

The Landing Strip was shot at Elks Lodge 2190 at 20925 Osborne Street in Canoga Park. I was able to track this one down by one behind-the-scenes shot that showed a building across the street being sold by CBRE.

They were kind enough to let us take photos inside….

Then back outside….

And then inside again…

This establishing shot is on the 6400 block of Hollywood Boulevard.

The strip club in reality is… a strip club! It is located at 6315 Hollywood Boulevard.

They cross Hollywood Boulevard at Wilcox Avenue. There aren’t many good screenshots for comparison as the background is mostly out-of-focus lights, so included a few behind the scenes pics for reference. Her friend gets in a cab at 6430 Hollywood Boulevard.

Theda Bara’s star is actually right by the strip club, just a few steps east of the entrance.

She walks by storefronts at 6408 Hollywood Boulevard. Special thanks to Angel Jimenez for sharing his pictures when he was able to visit the set on location during filming!

Maxxxine technically is walking right to her apartment, but she doubles back and is first going through this alley next to 1649 Cahuenga Boulevard.

The alley does loop around to another alley in between 6412 and 6420 Hollywood Boulevard.

She then goes to her apartment at 6410 Hollywood Boulevard.

Bodies are then found at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery at 6000 Santa Monica Boulevard. I was annoyed by a reference about Judy Garland’s memorial being there as it was not relocated to the property until just a few years ago — get it right, people!

Since filming, there is now a tomb on top of the exact spot the bodies were located.

Couple shots back at WB in front of Stage 15. No screen-matches here, but included some pics from my catalog for reference.

The Westin Bonaventure Hotel has been used in many films, including True Lies. It is located at 404 Figueroa Street. And no, I didn’t go downtown to get a better matching shot!

We return to Hollywood Boulevard….
…where she is confronted at her apartment at 6410.

Back at Gate 5 at Warner Bros. Studios.

She is picked up by Elizabeth in front of Stage 16 at Warner Bros. Studios.

We are then magically transported to Universal Studios where they jet around the backlot.

We then end up at the Bates Motel and house at Universal.

Always a favorite spot of mine, I can’t believe there were talks of tearing all of it down several years ago.

I was actually at Universal Studios in the summer of 1985, so I can tell you that area looked much different than it does in the movie. As you can see in my photo below, there were no buildings or structures surrounding the motel. Unfortunately, this was as close as we could get at the time as they were getting ready to film Psycho III.

We are then back at Gate 5 at WB Studios.

This scene is right outside the studio on Warner Boulevard.

The video store was right next to her apartment. The first couple photos are from the exterior set taken by Angel. The last photo is a comparison of what it looks like in real life vs. to what they built in the studio.
I did appreciate that the Fangoria he is reading is time-period accurate and recognized it immediately from the cover featuring Friday the 13th: A New Beginning. I still own that magazine!

Back at her apartment…

Maxxxine is confronted on Western Street at Universal Studios. Obviously this area has been used in hundreds of productions, most recently featured in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

He chases her through the backlot and through movie magic, she somehow ends up on the other side of the lot at courthouse square. Best known for it’s appearance in Back To The Future, I call shenanigans on this too, as this is not what it looked like at all in 1985!

She must of done a lot of running as they now are back at the Bates Motel.

On one of my many visits, I did get to go inside the Bates house!

Teenaged me would never believe how many times I’ve gotten to stand on these steps over the years!

Back at Warner Bros; just as you go through Gate 5, you would see in Hennesey Street. This area has been used in many films including Spider-Man, Gremlins, Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure, Annie, and more.

The loading dock is at 321 Aurora Street near downtown Los Angeles. I recognized this spot by the reverse shot as the building behind her was seen in Leprechaun In The Hood.

Probably my least favorite spot in LA, but here is the Grauman’s Chinese Theater. For my comparison shots, I of course used my pictures from my 1985 visit when A View To A Kill was there!

The always-great, Denis O’Hare.
