The Axe Murders of Villisca

Villisca Ax Murder House (1912)

Although my website normally focuses on movies and television shows, every once in a while I delve into a “real life” location. Today marks the 110th anniversary of the Villisca Axe Murders. The horrific incident happened just an hour from my house. My sister and friend are much more into true crime than me, but wanted to join them on this visit.

Since my visit, Lindsay Blake over at iamnotastalker.com recently did a deep dive on the house and history. Check out her article over at Dirt.com.

It’s a rather unassuming house on the outside….

The kitchen….

The living room….

The parents bedroom….

The upstairs bedrooms….

The creepy attic!

The house is open for tours and you can even spend the night if you want!

We also stopped by the cemetery to visit the graves….

A movie was made in 2016, The Axe Murders of Villisca, which is very loosely tied to the real-life event. While some establishing shots were filmed in Villisca, the main house is at the Heritage Square Museum in Los Angeles and is best known as the funeral home in Phantasm II.
