The Long Kiss Goodnight

The Long Kiss Goodnight (1996)

Since I was still in the Christmas mood, I thought I would finally get to work on posting one of my favorite holiday movies, The Long Kiss Goodnight. Written by Shane Black and directed by Renny Harlin, the film caught me by surprise the first time I saw it in the theater over two decades ago. I visited several of the locations while visiting Toronto three years ago, but just now getting around to publishing them. There are a few locations I wasn’t able to photograph, but I included some Google streetview shots and will indicate those photos.

I hate to start with Google streetview shots, but wanted to show the location for the opening parade scene. This is Main Street in Unionville, Ontario. I’m kicking myself because I was on this street getting shots for In The Mouth Of Madness, I just needed to turn around! The camera is shooting around 177 and 198 Main Street.

The Jersey Correctional Facility also appears In The Mouth Of Madness as the asylum. It is located at the RC Harris Water Treatment Plant at 2701 Queens Street East in Scarborough, Ontario.

The phone booth scene is located 1020 Queen Street East in Toronto. Some of the signs in the background haven’t changed since filming.

Back to some Google streetview shots as I wasn’t able to make it this location during my visit. Samantha’s house is located at 25 Dominion Street in Uxbridge, Ontario.

The train station scene is a fantastic action setpiece. Although no longer a working station, the Liuna Station is now rented out for events. It is located at 360 James Street North in Hamilton, Ontario. (This location was also used in the Stephen King film, 11.22.63.)

The location is somewhat near the water, but is several blocks away and not exactly adjacent to the building. They also built a small extension on the roof for the explosion.

Are we in Atlantic City? Nope, still Toronto. You can clearly see Honest Ed’s in the background, at the corner of Bathurst Street and Bloor Street West in Toronto.

The alley is right off Bloor Street on Loretto Lane.

The car chase drives quickly by these two buildings used in numerous films, the building on the left was the video store in The Big Hit and also appeared in the Dawn of the Dead remake. The building on the right is the former Canary Restaurant, both on the corner of King and Parliament Streets in Toronto. This is just down the street from some other locations including the police station from Bride Of Chucky and Curious Goods from Friday the 13th: The Series.

Back to a quick Google streetview shot. Although this church is supposed to be located near the Uxbridge home, we are back in Unionville just down the street from the railroad spot seen In The Mouth of Madness. The church is located at 131 Main Street in Unionville, Ontario.

For the ice skating scene and chase, we move back to Uxbridge, just a few blocks from Samantha’s home. The small pond is around Elgin Park with the chase going around Mill Street, Water Street, and Concession Road 7.

We move even farther north for the next scene. There are a few quick shots as they turn the corner around this church, located at 160 Pinen Street in Collingwood, Ontario.

The next action scene takes place a block away at the corner of Third Street and Hurontario Street in Collingwood, Ontario.

That’s all I have for now, but will continue to update with new locations as I get to them!
